Prickly Beast Cuddle

Prickly Beast Cuddle is a free to play, multiplayer party word game where you and your friends answer themed prompts using a hand of random themed word tiles. The results are weird, chaotic, clever, and sometimes, absolutely perfect 😙🤌.

We named the game Prickly Beast Cuddle because it represents the awkward combinations you can create with word tiles in the game. The name itself is a bit of a puzzle, just like the game. It is meant to be memorable, a little bit absurd, and to give you a taste of the kind of fun and weirdness you can expect when you play. My wife wanted it to be something "cute and cuddly", and I insisted that we needed something "manly". The final name is the result of that compromise.

Each round, players get a prompt and build an answer using the word tiles in their hand. After everyone submits, the judge picks their favorite. Points are won, and then the judge role rotates to the next player. The game is won by the first player to hit the target score, or by the player with the most points at the end of the game's last round.

Your display name is a descriptor (adjective) and thing (noun). It is generated from the same word pools the actual game draws from, which means you can end up with some pretty hilarious combinations. It also adds to the fun of joining a game, because you never know what name you are going to get. If you generate a name that you really like, you can also save it by 'locking' it to your (free) account if you have one. You can regenerate a new one at any time; just remember if you lock in a new name, you lose access to your old one unless you miraculously generate it again!

The avatar picker is just a fun little extra icon to represent you in the game, you don't need to lock it in like your display name. You can change your avatar icon as much as you want, and it will not affect your display name or any other aspect of your account.

Nope. You are not picking from canned jokes. You build your own answer from the words you are given, which means you can be as curt or as elaborate as you wish.

Most party games ask you to use pre-determined phrases, fill in a blank, or type whatever you want. Prickly Beast Cuddle makes you work with a random, themed hand of word tiles, so the fun comes from improvising something hilarious out of the words you were dealt. No two hands are the same!

The game in standard and streamer modes is built for 3 to 15 players. Zen mode allows for solo play - for fun and/or practice. There are also plans for other modes of team matches and duo play in the future.

Nope. No downloads, no installs, no updates to worry about; it is completely web-based. You can just host a room and share the room link with your friends (or your streaming audience) to get the party started. It is designed to be as easy as possible to jump in and play.

Yes. It is designed for mobile play, so you can play from the couch, the car (as a passenger), or the bathroom (just don't drop your phone!). Remember, the game is best played with audio or video chat, or in a room with your friends, for the best and most hilarious results.

Yes. Desktop works too, and will provide the best experience for streamers. It gives plenty of screen real estate for game information, and it is easier to manage the game and a chat at the same time.

The host starts a room and shares the room link. When you access it with your device and browser of choice, cycle through the randomized name generator until you find one you like, select an avatar, and join the lobby. That's it!

Nope. Only the host needs an account to create a room. Guests can join and play without signing up.

Yes. You can either join someone else's game for free or host your own with a free, Bronze Tier account. Paid tiers (subscriptions) unlock more content, more options, and more modes.

Paid tiers unlock extra prompt packs, word packs, emoji packs, and other modes for your party group. More content means more variety, more replayability, and more fun! Your friends benefit from what you buy.

Great, you don't have to! You can purchase prompt, word, and emoji packs and own them forever without subscribing monthly or yearly. Or if you prefer to play without the premium content, you can still enjoy the free content and host/join games without spending a dime.

Yes, and honestly, you should. That is where the best gameplay lives. "Family Chaos" with "B-Movie Slasher"? "Eldritch Horror" and "Baby Babble"? "High Fantasy" and "Office Life"? "Your Momma" and "Pet Speak"? That is the good stuff. But even if you want to keep things simple, sticking with the same theme makes for great fun as well. You just can't go wrong with "Shaman Wisdom" prompts and Caveman words, for example.

Word tiles are the building blocks of your answer. Instead of typing anything you want, you work with a limited collection of words in your hand and try to make something funny, clever, nonsensical - or all three.

Yes. Your hand refreshes as the game goes on, replacing the words you've used, so you always have new material to work with. You can also recycle words up to a predefined amount each turn.

That is part of the challenge. But you are not stuck forever. You can recycle some of your words and hope fate gives you something slightly less sad to work with.

Yes! Bronze Tier hosts can select from and mix pre-defined 'emoji' packs together in their games. Silver Tier users have access to the previous system in addition to creating one custom 'emoji recipe' per room 'on the fly' to very specifically mix and match emojis together. Gold Tier users are able to not only create multiple emoji sets 'on the fly' but also have access to a recipe creator that allows them to save up to 10 custom recipes for quick use. We've found that including specific emoji sets can make the difference between a good game and a great one.

Yes. Each round has a judge who picks their favorite answer. Sometimes they reward wit. Sometimes they reward pure stupidity. Sometimes there is no descernable criteria. This is where it pays off to get to know your friends.

A short game can be just a few rounds, lasting anywhere from 10-15 minutes. The host has the ability to increase round count, or points to win, which can extend the game duration. Player count can also increase the length of the game significantly.

Yes. The prompts and word pools are PG-rated, but of course words can have multiple meanings, and their usage will depend on your play group - on how the group chooses to answer the prompts. This is an 'unrated' experience, and so it will be up to you and your friends to set the tone for your game. If you want to keep it clean, you can. If you want it to be edgy, you can do that too.

Not at all. You just have to be willing to commit. Some winning answers are clever, some are absurd, and some are so stupid they loop all the way back around to brilliant. Even one-emoji answers can win a turn, so anything goes!

Absolutely. It works great for remote friend groups, online game nights, or Discord calls. Just be sure that you have some form of audio or video chat going, for the best experience!

Very. The standard mode can be great for streaming, allowing viewers to participate and react in real-time. Gold Tier hosts can also enable streamer mode, which keeps the host as the judge and lets the audience compete for their favor. It is a great way to engage with your community and create some hilarious content together.

Streamer mode lets the host stay the judge instead of playing answers themselves. That makes it especially great for creators, because the streamer gets to react to the audience submissions without competing against them. It also prevents situations that would occur in a normal game where the host might have an unfair advantage by having the audience see their submissions, and favor voting for the streamer's answers. Streamer mode is available to Gold Tier hosts, and it works best with a live audience on Twitch or YouTube. However, there is nothing stopping a host from using streamer mode in a private game with friends, if they just want to be the judge and not compete.

Yes. The game is quick to learn, easy to join, and simple to pick up. Within a round or two, most players understand the mechanics. You can also adjust the countdown timer per round or turn it off completely to give new players more time if needed.

No! All the Bronze Tier emojis are free to use in the game. However, paid emojis are a thing. You unlock them through silver or gold subscriptions, or the paid lifetime silver or gold emoji packs. They are a fun way to add an extra layer of humor and personality to your answers. In the future, we plan on adding artist-designed custom emojis to the existing bronze, silver, and gold tiers, so that players can enjoy a fresh, more tailored experience. Once implemented, both designed and default variations of the emojis will be available to choose from.
